Climate change and severe weather carry profound risks for our health and for the health of the economy. Natural systems – such as forests and marine coastal regions – are under stress from global warming and associated pests and diseases; potentially threatening resources, food chains and the life-support systems we depend on. Recognition of the emerging risks and rising costs from climate change has begun to generate bold business initiatives. In this briefing, scientists and representatives from financial institutions and the United Nations present the findings of a three-year assessment of climate change impacts, and discuss policy options that can help to stabilize the climate and stimulate economic growth.
