Human Health and Global Environmental
Change: This course highlights the
human health connection to environmental change issues such as global warming,
biodiversity, and pollution.
Working with high school teachers, the Center for Health and the
Global Environment has adapted its course taught at Harvard Medical
School to provide the opportunity to incorporate emerging environmental concepts within the context of cutting edge research and authentic scientific inquiry. The course may be used to teach a full semester long class, or teachers may use the resources individually. These include lectures
available online through realplayer, powerpoint presentations, guiding questions, vocabulary words, activities,
related readings and resources.
Purpose:
- To encourage environmental education within the context of global perspectives and human health
- To accomplish this goal in part by providing secondary educators with resources that:
- are comprehensive and easy to use
- address National Science Education Standards
- offer access to international experts in the field of human health and global environmental change
This site is designed to meet the needs of individual instructors and their students:
- As a semester curriculum
- As a unit for based on one topic
- As a supplement to existing environmental curricula
- As a foundation for project-based assessment
